Repairing symbolic links in Mac OS X v.10.0-10.2

Some versions of a certain Macintosh disk utility, and Mac O.S. X do not play well together. When run on a machine with Mac O.S. X present, SystemWorks v.2 has been known to 'Fix' symbolic-links - breaking the ability for Mac O.S. X to boot. Th is describes the procedures necessary to repair the problem manually (without having to re-install Mac OS X).
